Man with manly moustache. We must mention the moustache for it is gloriously distinguished.

The piece Looks like a study of someone, possibly a pirate. I rated this as middle of the road largely because its a study and neither exhibiting the best of what you can do or the worst. It feels developmental so I see no point dwelling on issues of vision or originality etc.

Technique-wise: I like the texture and lighting around the face, You seemed to have stepped back from detailing the rest of him which works well, brings focus to the head as does the white tone behind.

I think I'm not a fan of him staring off into the Left of the page, purely out of preference. I think everything is weighted to the Left, his posture and bearing etc. Humans are rarely that rigid unless posing and character doesn't filter well in this type of three quarter pose. Maybe you'd get more life out of it if you had his eyes turned towards the viewer. Perhaps his whole head? It'd show us intent.

I think you may want to add more detail to the lighting on his shoulders and the Collar area. There are hints of detail that if sat with for another hour or so could really set apart the image you're trying to portray.

I like the scowl, it's subtle but there when you look for it. his hair could use a bit of attention yet I still like the silhouette of the head and as I said its got the feel of a study, the forms about the face are easily read so I think it achieves what it was trying to achieve.
